Greetings Goddesses!
Thought I would share some words, since sadly at this moment I cannot share the wine.
I just opened a Viognier I bought for our inaugural V & V Meeting in March. No one was interested in drinking whites at the time, so it sat in the fridge.
It was one of my trial purchases from Trader Joe's. It is remarkably good and the price point was excellent! Always good to have a white wine on hand for guests who are newbies to wine or are just not red savvy.
It's a screw top (hey - don't hate!) but that serves a hostess well since it needs to stay chilled. Having worked in a winery, I know that the screw top is a better option to preserve the integrity of wine, however, there is a longstanding opinion that screw tops equate a cheap or unworthy wine. (Probably propaganda from the Cork Makers Union)
But I will admit that there is something beyond tradition that just feels right about a cork. Maybe it is the ceremony of the process or the soft pop of a cork as it leaves the mouth of the bottle that beckons you to pour and inhale.....
Anyway - Cheers!!

Great post my dear! I keep walking by that lael at Traders and wondering if it's worth it, I'll have to give it a try :)
ReplyDeleteI happen to love white wines. I think most folks think "California heavy oaked Chardonnay" when they think white wine and that causes them to miss a delightful array of fantastic whites. Try a Pinot Blanc. Or a Marsanne/Roussanne blend. Fabulous. And as for screw tops..I find by about the 3rd bottle, I really appreciate the uncomplicated nature of a screw top. ;-)
